character guide

This isn't meant to be used as a rule, but more a set of guidelines, so that your character isn't an anomaly (unless that's what you prefer, of course). Here we try to offer a few guiding questions to help make the character creation process here a bit easier. After that, it's up to you to roleplay and develop your character that way!

First, would you like a male or female character?

A simple starting point. Would you rather play a female or male? Each gender comes along with different personality stereotypes (but you're not required / limited to play a typical character) and differences in weight, size, voice, you know. Males are generally large for their size, have a good amount of muscle and are taller than females. Females are notably smaller and a lot less aggressive that males naturally, but we're not stressing to be extremely realistic. Try to keep things in perspective, however. We do not want to see big Bertha the two ton she-wolf.

What does he / she look like?

Gender plays a big role in this, usually. Females will be more svelte, small, and lithe, unless you'd like to surprise us, and males larger and heavier. The basic appearance must be that of a wolf, however. If your character doesn't belong to a pack, they must have a normal eye color (Green, Amber (orange), Yellow, Blue (very, very rare, mostly in pups, but they change when a wolf gets older) etc). If they do not have a shard, they must have a realistic pelt color (Sandy, Ginger, White, Black, Timber, etc) and no appearance alteration.

When your wolf gets a shard, their body can undergo an alteration of appearance that is related to the element that is contained within the shard. This relation can be in color, such as a wolf inheriting the power of water becomming blue in some parts of their pelt, or the relation can be in actual forms that defined the element, such as the same wolf inheriting the power of water having a small dorsal fin. The alteration of appearance is of your choice, but we limit you to only one and request you follow the example we have set on this page (that the change is related to the element and shard you get). Other than the one change of appearance, you must keep a realistic pelt color. You must also keep a realistic eye color unless you have joined a pack.

Every pack has to pick two colors that represent that pack and if your character joins a pack, their eyes will become those two colors as a way of showing their membership. You can choose how your characters eyes will show the colors. All the wolves in one pack having the colors blue and orange could possibly have one blue and one orange eye, or each eye being a mix of the two, or even the eyes being one colour with speckles of the other. The options are many, but your character's eyes must be the two colors of the pack and no other (ie. If your character had green eyes before, but the pack colors were blue and orange, then your eyes would become some sort of blue and orange with no green being in them anymore). If your wolf leaves a pack, they may change back to their original color, or even a new color if you'd like (as long as it is realistic).

What's your character like?

Your character's personality is what really brings them to life and helps guide you to know how they will react in certain situations. If your character is devoid of personality, you might have a hard time roleplaying them. If roleplaying them becomes hard because you don't know your character, it can become a "chore" to roleplay and that's when you quit. Roleplaying shouldn't be a chore, so you want to make sure you've thought about your character well enough so you'll actually like playing them.

Character Strengths:
What are your character's strengths?
Character Flaws:
What about character flaws and weaknesses? All characters have some sort of flaw.
Optimist - Pessimist - Realist
Alignment (Good - Neutral - Evil)

Just a few things to keep in mind.

Also, when you define their personality, try to keep within it. Don't do something that they wouldn't do, please. You can also keep in mind that you can still develop their personality through roleplaying, to show the effects that certain situations have had on them.

What about history?

Don't worry about it, unless you want to. The wolves have been here, in Aurius for as long as they remember, unless you'd like to be different. By all means, it's up to you. We all have no idea what we're doing anyway.

The history field is mainly for history developed over the course of roleplay, not a pre-site history.

This is not a competition.

Muse, at least, is not a site where the only goal is to have a well liked character, be ranked, get a mate, and so forth. We're about having a nice time writing a collaborative story, because, come on, that's really what we're doing, right? We do want a nice, sociable environment, but not everyone has to play an alpha male to be recognised. (But we do need alpha male characters, don't get me wrong.)

For this reason, we have not allowed the use of middle or surnames. Your wolf may only have a first name.
